Vocabulary must be taught from a young age. Before the age of 3, child absorb like sponge. Teaching them vocabulary does not mean that the output will be immediate. For instance, it was only at the age of 5 that Natalie could start giving outputs. But it was almost miraculous that she started using the vocabulary taught to her at a young age. She could suddenly identify images that she saw.
Therefore, one of the ways in which I teach vocabulary is using the tool of 'Vocabulary of the month board'. A theme is given and the 3 children will have to come up with all the words they know about the theme. Once done, mummy will input more difficult vocabulary. After which, we will try to categories them. The kids will go through the words everyday.
Differentiated Learning Task:
Faith (age 2): To create an art of the theme.
Emmanuel (age 4): To learn to identify and spell simple words on the board.
Natalie (age 7): To use the words on the board and write a story.
